The months of spring into the fall is the time homeowners around the country may have close encounters with a variety of pests that find their porches, decks, yards and other outdoor spaces so enticing. That’s why Pest Management Professionals (PMPs) who service monthly and quarterly accounts need reliable, long-lasting perimeter solutions that can control the wide range of pest species that inhabit these spaces. And let’s not forget an added layer of defense to help protect against the weather!

Fendona® CS controlled release insecticide from BASF offers the durability needed during these high pest pressure months. This rain-fast dilutable acts quickly on key labeled pests and is especially effective against mosquitos and spiders. The active ingredient (AI) in Fendona CS controlled release insecticide, alpha-cypermethrin, is encapsulated by a protective micro-mesh outer layer. This lipophilic layer allows the microcaps to adhere to the treated surfaces on which pests travel, rest, or hide, and helps the caps cling onto the cuticle of the pest. Fendona CS microcaps can range in size from 3 to 27.69 μm, allowing for the release of the AI at various times and generating the slow delivery needed to optimize the time between application and pest exposure. The microcaps vary in size for optimal activity:

  • Large-size microcaps release the AI first.
  • Medium to small-size microcaps release the AI later.
  • Small-size microcaps can cover the smaller irregularities on any surface and are less likely to easily break or wash away with rain.

With the variety of microcap sizes that contribute to the enhanced coverage and product efficacy, the lipophilic properties allow the product to last on surfaces like mulch, concrete and siding and increase the chances for pests to acquire a lethal dose of Fendona CS controlled release insecticide. Customers may not ask or be aware of the science behind micro-encapsulation, but they are sure to appreciate the lasting coverage it provides around their outdoor spaces.
