    -ins vs. -oids

I’m getting ready to add mosquito management to my services. I’ve been reading the Mr. Pest Control Q&As here on PestWeb. What application method do you consider a barrier treatment? It seems a mist blower is the go-to in the industry, but, in one of your answers, you mention it is only used as a knockdown, not a residual. I intend to use a mist blower to treat shrubs, trees and eaves.

    Great Expectations

I run a part-time mosquito barrier business in north central Texas using a Stihl backpack sprayer. I apply bifenthrin and NyGuard IGR every 21 days. A few of my customers have had mosquitoes come back after two weeks. Is there anything better than what I’m using?

    Aim Higher

We are a small mosquito control company and are pretty new. We treated a yard two days ago that had some trees and shrubs taken down a week ago and pushed behind their fence. We were over there hanging out and only a couple people were bitten. We treated the yard with Talstar P and put some repellent granules down as well. Why would they still be biting? Would we need to try a liquid larva...

    From Parent to Child

Do you think a NyGuard IGR treatment to a yard (through handheld or backpack sprayer, not a backpack mister) would be effective at controlling mosquitos? A video from MGK mentions a study that showed a horizontal transfer of pyriproxyfen from adult mosquitos to breeding sites, stopping larvae from emerging. Have you heard of such a thing? Do you think such a product transfer would greatly ha...

Stay above Soil and You’re Good

After all the changes regarding pyrethroid usage around homes, how are barrier treatments to areas mosquitoes rest during the day, such as under and on hedges, bushes, plants , etc., affected? It seems these are gray areas. I have seen new language advising to direct away from swimming pools. Is this new?

    Mosquitoes in the Mist

I was wondering if Cyonara 9.7 can be used in a backpack Sthil mist blower for mosquito control. We currently use Talstar P, which is a great product, but it does not last long enough and we would like a longer residual. Using a mist blower – is that considered to be ULV? These labels are so hard to read and understand! Your help would be greatly appreciated.

    Mosquitoes At The Five-Star

There is a hotel with a serious mosquito problem (biting the guests). The hotel management does not want to fog because of liability with the hotel being occupied. Instead, they are asking Pest Control Operators to eliminate this problem without fogging. Is this possible?

    Stop Them From Flying!!

I have a farm and family center in central NY that has mosquitoes in the greenhouse, garden center, and some getting into the main store area. What would you recommend to do in a situation like this? I am not sure if fly zappers would work or if just the cold weather would take care of the problem, but they are asking us to deal with it. Please advise as to what we might be able to do.
